What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? click to learn more.
The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage in the wrist. Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the tunnel becomes contracted or when tissues nearby the flexor tendons swell, thus putting stress on the median nerve. These tissues are called the synovium. Normally, these tissues lubricates the tendons, making it easier for fingers to move. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition that causes pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and arm. The condition occurs when one of the major nerves to the hand is squeezed or compressed as it travels through the wrist. Proper treatment usually relieves the tingling and numbness and restores wrist and hand function.
