Colon Cancer Survivors, Fighters & Supporters Support Group
Colon cancer is a malignant type of cancer that begins from the inner walls of large intestine (colon) or rectum. Colon cancer happens when tumorous growths develop in the large intestine. It usually begins as small, noncancerous clumps of cells called polyps that form on the inside of the colon. Over time some of these polyps can become colon cancers. Colon cancer typically affects older adults, though it can happen at any age. Some common risk factors of colon cancer are increasing age, African-American race, and a family history of colorectal cancer, colon polyps, and long-standing ulcerative colitis.
