Dementia is not a single disease it is a collective term used to describe several underlying diseases and brain disorders. Dementia is an overall term used for disorders characterized by a cognitive decline in memory, language, problem-solving and other thinking skills that affect a person's ability to perform everyday activities. Dementia is caused by damage to brain cells. This damage interferes with the ability of brain cells to communicate with each other. When brain cells cannot communicate normally, thinking, behavior and feelings can be affected. Dementia symptoms vary depending on the cause, but common symptoms include: Memory loss, Difficulty communicating and finding words, Difficulty with visual and spatial abilities, Difficulty with coordination and motor functions, and disorientation.
