What you know about depression

Depression is a very common, real and serious medical illness that is treatable. It negatively affects the feelings of an individual and also the way a person thinks or responds to a certain situation. Generally, it is associated with causing feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can prompt an assortment of passionate and physical issues and can diminish an individual's capacity to work and think.

Commons concepts about depression:

Depression is a difficult concept to grasp. When people think about depression, they often divide it into two categories, one that is clinical depression and needs to be treated under the supervision of a specialist and the second one, the regular depression that almost anyone can go through. In reality, depression refers to both, the symptom of a condition and a condition itself.

Common reasons behind depressed mind:

There may or may not be any good reason for an individual to be depressed. Some people are tending to be depressed when they lost their job or a close friend passed away. Some individual doesn’t even need to have a reason and that leads to clinical depression. The reason may be the chemicals in the brain which are responsible for mood control may be out of balance causing you to feel bad even though everything in your life is going well.

Types of depression:

Depression affects how one feels, thinks, and behaves and can interfere with the ability to function and carry on with daily life activities. There are many different causes of depression, some of which we don't fully understand. Few of them are listed below;

  • Major depression:

Also known as clinical depression or unipolar depression, it is characterized by a persistent lack of interest in outside stimuli or feelings of sadness. The consistent state of a dark mood makes an individual all-consuming and less interested in the activities that are usually pleasurable.

Side effects of this kind of misery incorporate issue resting, changes in craving or weight, loss of vitality, and feeling useless. Contemplations of death or suicide may happen. It is normally treated with psychotherapy and energizer prescriptions, electroconvulsive treatment is affected if there should be an occurrence of extreme gloom.

  • Bipolar Disorder:

Also called manic depression, the person suffering goes through extreme fluctuations in mood and changes in energy, thinking, behavior, and sleep, occurring frequently or periodically. It may lead to suicidal thoughts that change over to feelings of euphoria and endless energy.

Unlike depression, in these reoccurring episodes of depression, the individual is found to have diminished requirement for rest, ridiculously high confidence, musings and action at higher speed, and increase quest for joy, overspending, and chance taking. Being manic can feel extraordinary, yet it doesn't keep going long, can prompt pointless conduct, and is normally trailed by a time of misery.

Medications for bipolar disorder are different from those given for other depression types like mood stabilizers, such as lithium, which can be used to control the mood swings that come with bipolar disorder along with other antidepressants and atypical antipsychotics.

The other common types of depression include PMDD, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and Atypical Depression along with many others.
